This article examines the relationship between Environmental Management Control (EMC) and Organizational Learning (OL) by extending the theoretical model of Simons (1995) in a contingent perspective. Through strategic and organizational factors, this enriched model expounds the links between the Simons’s (1995) levers of control (diagnostic and interactive controls) and the Argyris and Schön’s (1978) levels of learning (simple loop learning and double loop learning). Vers une tridimensionalité du contrôle interactif

We propose in this paper to revisit the concept of interactive control, highlighted by Robert Simons, examining the use of "environmental control systems" in Ten French Companies proactive in ecology. By showing that interactivity of "control systems" is not limited to a vertical dimension as suggested by Simons, but it tends towards three-dimensional (vertical, transversal and external), this study highlights the interest of explore further upstream the concept of interactive control little studied in the literature.

Cet article étudie les relations entre contrôle de gestion environnemental (CGE) et apprentissage organisationnel (AO) en inscrivant le modèle de Simons (1995) dans une perspective contingente. Par des facteurs stratégiques et organisationnels, ce modèle enrichi explique les liens entre les modes de contrôle (diagnostique et interactif) de Simons et les niveaux d’apprentissage (en simple et double boucle) d’Argyris et Schön (1978). S’appuyant sur le « cas révélateur » d’une éco-PME missionnaire, l’étude montre l’influence de trois facteurs (valeurs fortes, stratégie proactive, cycle de vie des activités) sur les quatre configurations relationnelles CGE-AO et ouvre de nouvelles perspectives …

With the conceptual framework of control levers of Simons (1995), this article shows how to coordinate diagnostic and interactive uses of the same "management control system" (in this case a system of environmental indicators) for the deployment and the emergence of new strategies. In contrast to the literature, we propose an articulation "in parallel" of levers of control as alternative to sliding levers of control. These results are obtained from a case study in a French wine and spirits subject to large strategic environmental uncertainties.
